Why did the hard drive stop working after a "hot plug"?
Yesterday I asked a question Can an HDD hide part of the data? and in the comments of one of the answers , Artem (Windows Tag Curator for a second) said the following:
After that I tried to connect the hard drive, he really decided (we are talking about another hard drive, and not the one I spoke about in that question), but he began to publish some strange sounds (vaguely similar to the sound of fireworks, only much quieter). I got scared and immediately rebooted the computer. After that, the DJ ceased to be determined, and the sounds are the same, what could happen to the HD?
Changed:
motherboard - ASUS M5A97 R2.0

Why did the hard drive stop working after a "hot plug"?Well obviously - the disk broke.
So I didn’t connect it correctly, I do it all the time, I changed a lot of disks for work and norms - only once I connected the power to the wrong side =))) but in general, hot swap if you don’t know how, then don’t do it. You are to blame for everything.
1) In the BIOS settings, hot swap should be allowed
2) first SATA with data, then connect the power.
3) After turning on the disk, do not drop it, do not put it crooked, etc ...
There is always a chance to insert the cable crookedly and short-circuit neighboring contacts.
take it to the service and find out that with the disk
any turning on and off is stressful for the disk and can kill it
