What is this used for? I can't understand at all. I have already met many times on cables, but I don’t see the point in this nozzle. Is that additional protection of the tongue, maybe.

I have already met many times on cables, but I don’t see the point in this nozzle.
I heard a hypothesis that rubber caps are needed in order not to spoil the connector, in the process of pulling the cable through the jungle. If there is no gum, then the antennae clings and breaks off. If there is an elastic band, then it cannot catch on.
(Although it seems that it is easier to just pull the cable and then crimp it).
