Why are monitors with a frequency of 144 Hz produced?

What is the purpose of producing monitors not 75 or 100 Hz, namely 144 Hz? What effect is achieved with this?

In this article (ran quickly) tests showed that video cards (more precisely, test video games) do not give out more than 90 fps. From myself I will add that the human eye is not able to distinguish between jerks at a frequency starting from 12-15 fps. For example, video cameras give out 24-25-30 fps - and no one complains.
