Who needs an aged developer?

Good afternoon, the

situation is as follows: a friend has a father, age 64, programming and implementation experience for more than 20 years, specializes in C, C ++, Assembler MCS 51, MS Visual Studio, Java, VB.net. Full of energy and desire to work. I didn’t find success with freelancing - I don’t have a beautiful portfolio + the habit of working independently (up to the choice of technology). The question is: where can I find a job for a person with such data, who needs such a developer? If necessary, a more detailed summary will be provided.

If he has more than 20 years of work, then he probably worked in many companies, and with his work experience, he will probably be taken somewhere to a leadership position if he thinks adequately.

I would recommend looking for work through acquaintances in actively developing foreign companies. In the Russian offices of some of them older people work - I saw it myself. I would start with Samsung. In addition, a person at the age of 64 usually has many acquaintances. If Java knowledge is serious enough, it makes sense to send a resume to the St. Petersburg office of Oracle, to JetBrains, to the Riga office of Exigen. Unfortunately, I do not know the situation in Ukraine. As for freelancing, I would advise odesk.com , if you haven’t tried it yet, some of my javist friends found very good regular customers there from abroad.

Try luxoft.com
I walk around the office here and apparently they don’t look at age when hiring

In the startup farm where I worked, there were uncles for 55, so you just need to send a resume and be sociable. The main thing during the interview is not to boast of experience, but to say that I love learning new technologies from colleagues.

If he likes to work alone, then only freelance, and only projects in which team development is excluded. There are many of those. Portfolio is being developed.

Maybe he needs his own project, since he loves to understand and do everything from and to!? Technical solutions that the market is willing to pay for, I think, can be found. In addition, you can fork and finish something from GITHUB. I heard that this is how you get a job. After all. if something necessary and in demand is forked, then it must be developed, and sometimes refactored, and be sure to connect with something else ... And here the person is also interesting, why not give him money for his work?

Just search HeadHunter / BrainStorage. I admit that they will not want to take it everywhere. But a programmer with knowledge of Java and C ++ and 20 years of experience should not be stale.

Knowledge is also different. And most importantly, as the presence of a problem, as such: The speed of thinking and implementation is inversely proportional to the age. Try out as a consultant. on IBM, programmers over 35 who have not switched to project management and above are laid off, artfully creating situations where anyone passes. And then ... "not matching blah blah blah."

Programming is a rare area in which nothing but your real knowledge, skills and efficiency is of decisive importance at the present time. It is possible, when applying, to get on a stubborn personnel officer, of course, but there are not so many of them.

Can look towards microcontrollers? Or teaching. Now robotic circles and, accordingly, competitions are spawning like mushrooms, and sometimes there are such puzzles that there is something to stretch the brain with 20+ years of experience.
