Which virtualization to choose?

Good day.

given:
Hardware: Server - 24 core, 12 GB RAM, RAD1 (2xSAS)
Base OS - FreeBSD.

we want: basic consolidation of services with virtualization.

We are already using jails, everything is ok, but you can’t put another OS here.

Trying XenServer: it is noticeable that VMs do not always work optimally / quickly (gigabit does not pull, work with disks is not up to par)

Plans: to test VMWare ESXi.

Tell me what is best for Freys?
At the first stage, we consider free options.

I had no particular complaints about the work of VMware, especially in the stand-alone mode of the host. And Windows, and fryahi, and various Linuxes were spinning there. Yes, and under the criterion of free ESXi perfectly fits. So my advice is: as long as the architecture allows, use VMware.

I use both a free hypervisor from Vmware and a paid one. 30% -40% of virtual machines on bsd, I don't see any problems.

Why don't you consider the option with KVM?
Take CentOS and cram guests there - in my opinion, it will work great.

The free VMware ESXi 5 won't work because it's limited to 1 physical processor (or do you have one 24-core processor?).
It's strange that XenServer is slow ... I would continue to tinker with it ...
