Which OS version is best for iMac late 2006 or is it worth updating?

Hello.
Tell me, please, is it worth updating iMac late 2006 (core2duo 2.16GHz, 1.5GB) to a more recent version of MAC OS?
Now it's 10.6.8 and in general everything works fine, but ... :)
Shl. I'm going to put him 3GB of memory

I installed the latest version of Mac OS on a similar model and did not notice any special brakes, so feel free to upgrade to the latest, just add memory first. But I didn’t find any special advantages in the new one either.

The memory must be set in any case. And about the update, you need to understand the requirements of the software. If all the software runs fine on 10.6, then I would not upgrade.
I have 10.8 because of XCode, otherwise I would sit quietly on 10.7 (10.6 does not support my machine).

If you get memory up to 3 GB, then on 10.7 it will work even better than on 10.6 from 1.5, and software that requires 10.7+ appears more and more often.

At the first Air, I replaced the hard drive with a solid state drive and tried to roll 10.8. Surprisingly, everything got up and works stably. Maybe I didn’t win anything, but I don’t see the point in rolling back either.

there was a problem with 10.7 - it's not in the app store, only the mountain lion ... I'll probably have to install it :)

I have 10.6.8 on even older hardware. 3GB sees normally.
There used to be a lot of progs that required exactly 10.6.8, so I installed it. Recently, programs requiring 10.7 have begun to appear. But so far it's not that critical.
