Which Linux is best?

I understand that the question is hackneyed from head to toe, for which I apologize. I'm not a Linux fan, but I don't see any other option. There is a cookie on Atom 1.6GHz, 2GB RAM, 20gb hdd. Now windows 8.1 is running on it, it works, but it slows down violently, judging by the graphs, it lacks CPU performance, it is loaded by standard Windows processes, such as the window manager, etc. I want to get rid of these shortcomings without losing convenience.
Given the number of different versions of linux, it would be better to consult with knowledgeable people.
The following is important to me:

  1. the presence of a normal download manager that can download a group of files immediately according to the list, in Windows it can Download Master, who is capable of this in Linux I have no idea
  2. a normal interface that does not periodically fall apart like in Ubuntu
  3. the ability to connect remotely, preferably via RDP
  4. the ability to share folders from disks and flash drives from the interface, without witchcraft in the console
  5. vine support to spin some programs

Judging by the system requirements, any distribution kit is suitable, but by the availability of software and the interface, not everyone is.
Which distribution kit would be better to try to fit all the requirements?

in your case it is better to take a new laptop. =)

If you do not fine-tune Linux (modern distributions), then it will eat more resources than Windows.
If you do, then the question "which distribution" does not make sense: any.

1. DownloadThemAll! the plugin for Firefox can do everything you mentioned and even more, it works on any OS, or wget will handle the parameters from the console, man wget will help you
2. Unity has been using GNOME for several months, Cinnamon for a week - nothing falls apart, specify
3. Any popular distribution has it out of the box
4. Any popular distribution has it out of the box (in certain situations, additional configuration may be required, such as adding users to Samba, there is a bit of a strange device)
5. Installed on any popular distribution with one command in terminal or with a few clicks graphically
I've been on nightly builds of Ubuntu for almost three years, sometimes it falls apart because the nightly builds and the proposed repository is enabled, sometimes, once, in the middle of the development cycle, it falls apart starting from a black screen and ending with more exotic situations. And even in nightly assemblies, nothing crumbles and does not slow down, although the hardware is of a different level. The availability of software is the same everywhere, the repository for Ubuntu is often easier to find.
Choose what is suitable for the type and speed of reaction, the rest is everywhere. To download movies, you can install Ubuntu Server with Transmission or something similar, and not fool your head)

1. wget
2. ... already ~9 years on ubuntu, doesn't fall apart. What am I doing wrong?
3. Look under distribution AND its desktop environment
4. For Ubuntu: Right click on folder -> Properties -> Shared folder for LAN...
5. Gnome/KDE/XFCE/LXDE support this.
Check out XUbuntu, the hardware requirements are quite low.

Sergey gave good advice :) But if the hardware is for occasional use, then you can try Mint, Mate edition or XFCE. Both can be turned into something of your own. For example, I was on a netbook with less memory, I was sitting on IceWM, you can install it in the same ubuntu or mint (its package base is based, now, on Ubuntu LTS, but the design is not a unity).
Further on the points:
1. https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%9C%D0%B5%D0%BD%D... - choose for yourself. Or try: ugetdm.com/downloads. I myself used D4X more before, but the project is no longer developed, and wget -c is enough. Otherwise, I'm trying to download torrents
2. falls apart due to hardware or drivers. Try just another DE, like LXDE, XFCE, Mate, or more ascetic options (purely WM) like IceWM.
3. Only the client knows about RDP in linux. ssh on shitty channels is better. Well, or TeamViewer. This set is enough for the eyes so far
4. I won’t tell you, because. not interested
5. vine? I don't know of such a program. So I won't suggest. If it's a wine typo, then all distributions have it. For Ubuntu/Mint there is a PPA with more recent versions - sometimes it's good to run some newfangled crap.

For RDP I use remmina. She not only knows how to RDP. It works better than in windows, I think ...
As for everything else ... You understand, the taste and color - all felt-tip pens are different. What kind of distribution kit will behave adequately on your hardware, no one will tell you for sure. You have to try here. I've been on Linux Mint KDE for a while now. And each time, when installed on a new hardware, it behaves differently. You have to try and see...

I will also share my inexperienced opinion: D
Of all the Ubuntu options on my netbook with a very, very similar configuration (Asus EeePC 1201N), Xubuntu, already advised above, worked most adequately from the installation onwards.
Download manager I use uGet - seems to meet your requirements.
For remote access I usually use Chrome Remote Desktop
but xrdp works great too

My Asus EeePC 1015BX is running Elementary OS Freya. At the moment, for me, this is the optimal combination of beauty / speed. True, for the sake of justice, it is worth noting that the OS itself is damp with a lot of small bugs, but nevertheless it works quite quickly (although some version with xfce will probably work even faster) and copes well with Internet surfing, watching videos and mame emulator.
