Which is better Intel® Core™ i3-540 Processor (4M Cache, 3.06 GHz) or Intel® Celeron® Processor 2957U (2M Cache, 1.40 GHz)?

There is a relatively old computer with an Intel® Core™ i3-540 Processor (4M Cache, 3.06 GHz) and a new laptop with an Intel® Celeron® Processor 2957U (2M Cache, 1.40 GHz). Which one is best for gaming? Do I understand correctly that you cannot add 1600 MHz RAM to the first one?
