Which is better for desktop, FreeBSD (PC-BSD) or DragonFly BSD?

Are they capable of being a full-fledged desktop, if you do not take into account toys and commercial programs, such as CAD, 1C?

No. Better get archlinux, gentu, or slackware if you want to tinker.

Both are quite suitable. I have a colleague at work running DragonFly. I sat on a clean fra for a while, it was also normal. The show-stopper was the lack of a portable cryptocontainer - Windows was at work, there was frya at home, and the software that could open the encrypted disk both on Windows and on fra could not be found. I returned back to Windows and at home.
For home needs, everything was enough - beautiful icons, music played, video too, internet internet, mail went, ICQ worked. On the web, HTML5 is already mostly everywhere, so there were no particular problems with the video on the pages either.
