Where to start learning fonts?

Hello.
I would like to understand what types of fonts are, and where one or another type of font will look better (it will be more suitable for use). That is, I would like to learn how to select fonts for certain tasks.
What is the best way to start such a study, and which way to move on?
PS Maybe there are some good resources in which this topic would be well explained
PPS In the course of my life I plan to make presentations, write a dissertation, write papers. Also, I have already managed to make one site, and one user interface of the program (and maybe I will do it again). And I want those people who will read the texts, for example, at my presentations, or in the documents I have compiled, to assimilate the information as easily as possible. And of course, I understand that the ease of assimilation of information depends not only on fonts.

It is commendable that you are paying attention to this!
I would start by reading Emil Ruder's Typography. There are many application examples.
They also praise Tschichold, but I haven't read it, I don't know.
