Where to look for projects for free participation?

I program in C++, D.
I have some free time + desire to help a non-commercial project.
but here it is not possible to find anything interesting for itself.
there is no desire to connect to large open projects - open-source is not mine.
does anyone know where to look?

In general, a very strange approach. And what is not interesting about open source, it does not have to be a project with a large community, the choice is great. Github, Bitbucket, Sourceforge...
Is there any sense in helping a closed project?! And so the people will admire your work, and there will be more experience from participating in open source.

I think you can find similar projects. On various IT forums, I often met similar topics. Rummage, maybe you will find something similar, plus you will gain experience (you can find a lot of useful things on such forums).
