Where to go to work as a programmer?

Good afternoon!
I am 26 years old, I studied math-mecha at St. Petersburg State University. For a long time, he supported the project in an obsolete language, did not develop towards the modern stack. I am quite familiar with matan, linal, theory, algorithms, architecture, OOP, I can easily enter any language. But I do not know the trends of the current programmer market at all. Please tell me if, for example, I want to improve C # and work remotely (freelance exchange?), How difficult do you think it is and what will I have to face?

Look towards golang (if web) and rust.
There, at least you won't get to support a monster from the 90s

You can see what they ask for on freelance exchanges or on job search sites. Find the most common skills in the area of interest and study them.

and work remotely (freelance exchange?)

And all your life you will earn a penny.
You need to go into freelancing as an already established specialist.

Look at what development areas exist: Web, AI, mobile, desktop, game dev, data science. In which application area do you want to develop under that and learn the language))
If it's about C #, then it's usually hard for a junior to get into remote work at first. You have to work your hand in the office for a year. But, as always, everything is possible and there are exceptions))

Is there an algorithm how to evaluate the level of one's own skill, by what criteria - and, accordingly, what money to ask for? Not to be cheap.
