Career in IT

Where to go to IT with a little knowledge of R?

An ecologist by education, he graduated from graduate school, a Ph.D. on the way to defense. R was taught as a basic tool for statistical analysis, modeling, visualization and more. The theme of the dissertation is not related to statistics and is devoted to the functional diversity and productivity of plant communities, in a nutshell. One of the chapters of the Ph.D. is devoted to the creation of a linear regression model and the subsequent forecast. Another chapter uses PCA cluster analysis and ordination. Well, of course, descriptive statistics and exploratory analysis are used.
Where to go with such a background? Or is this absolutely not enough?
I am considering two options.
1. Go where R is required. You need a portfolio with projects. Does the code written for the thesis work for the project? Or do you need something bigger?
2. Go where Python is required. Learn Python and transfer your project written in R to it. Provided that this code is relevant to the project.
Why do I need all this? Money. Experience. Skills. Ideally, to save money to move abroad and work there in the main specialty.

What are you talking about? "Creating a linear regression model and subsequent prediction" - ?? Yes, these are students in the 2nd year studying now, and maybe in the first. Any technical specialty. R programming? Anyone who knows how to program in any - I emphasize, any - programming language, masters R (namely, programming, as such) in a week.
I have a question for TC. Just imagine if a certain specialist in the field of information technology and DataScience somewhere in his work described a regression model of "productivity of plant communities" and after that, believed that he could easily find a job in the field of ecology and biology. Would you laugh?
(Let me tell you in confidence that in my life I have been involved in the development of at least four different medical systems, some - really - very large and complex. And what, I can seriously hope to get into medical practice?)
Why do you think that the transition is it easier in the opposite direction?
Here's something like this.
If you are planning a move, then you need to clearly understand for yourself that in the expanses of the post-USSR, the difference in the salaries of a programmer and an ecologist or a biologist is significant. But here in the vastness of the civilized world - there is not much difference (on average). Therefore, if I were you, I would not shy away from various specialties, but would pull up a foreign one, skills in my main specialty, I would look for places to start an internship or post-docs. Chances of success will obviously be more.

Does the code written for the thesis work for the project?
- pulls, of course. It doesn't matter what students write there in their first year. A protected dissertation is a protected dissertation. In the West they will bow to you only for this. Write your CV in English and send it wherever you want to western companies.

Your set of skills seems to be drawn to an analyst - rummage through vacancies, correlate the requirements with your skills. Pull up what is missing - and after protection - go to social security. It is difficult to say something more concretely. You didn't show your dissertation.
