Where to enter in order to become a game designer or lvl artist and is it necessary at all?

When I was finishing my 4th year of college as a software developer, I realized that I did not like programming. It turns out to draw and I would like to somehow connect future work with creativity. I have always attracted gamedev with its scope for creativity (I think everyone has a story of how we played video games in childhood and to this day, etc. etc.). The essence of the question is how do I start my journey and in which direction to move if I do not quite understand what I want.

You can look at courses from XYZ there about game design.

It's already started but you can check it out at the warehouse.

A game designer doesn't draw. Lvl-artist - well, of course, there is such a specialty, but it is very narrowly focused.
If you want to draw - this is a 2D artist, a 3D artist, a concept artist, etc.

1. Understand what you want.
0. Move anywhere. Because 1 may not come immediately, or not come at all.
It is important to try at least something to do - so there are chances to find your favorite thing. So you got a job in your college - you understood something about programming.
Try to draw a game a la Banner Saga, Tokyo Dark, etc.. - not difficult in terms of programming, which is kept at the expense of design. You can try all sorts of game makers, even "paper prototyping". If things go well, there will already be work in the portfolio - there will be something to go to interviews with.
