What version of windows server should I choose for asp.net core?

When choosing a VPS hosting for Windows, there are several options:

  • 2003 R2SE
  • 2008 R2SE
  • 2012 R2SE

The newer the server, the more expensive the hosting. What version do you need for asp.net core hosting, and what is the main difference between them?

1 - VPS under .Net Core is the most fun to take on linux
2 - 2003 R2 SE will be in holes from head to toe, and, frankly, I'm not sure that everything will be easy with the installation of .Net Core
3 - I certainly guess that the prospect of administering linux frightening .. in a similar situation, I would still raise VirtualBox at home first (although for virtual servers under modern Windows 8 and higher, native Hyper-V is better right away) and would try EVERYONE .. before buying VPS
linux, do not so scary, and information on publishing .Net Core cross-platform solutions, now it's just a sea
ps
and indeed - it makes absolutely no sense to bother with .Net Core under Windows, the classic .Net Framework:
- better integrated into the system, it's easier to maintain " (update/configure)
- it's easier to develop for it
- the libraries are richer and more stable in terms of errors
- in the end it is guaranteed to be no worse in performance, it will most likely win everywhere or in some
places pastures of linux servers.. especially when you need a lot of them - for hi-load projects
what is your goal? if you are planning a large commercial project? either it will pay off the investment in more expensive configurations of modern versions of Windows, or it will pay off the effort to master Linux
if the goal is to get your hands on it, start with home layouts, including on 2003 R2 SE you can quite raise the traditional .Net 4.0 .. and when you have something to show the world, you yourself will know much better what kind of hosting is needed for this
. .. on the same azuri you can raise up to 10 sites for free, and one sql database up to 20 MB for free, this is enough to play, and the api is all the latest
there is another interesting option for a free start - https://appharbor.com/ with than there for each application, you can get a separate 20 MB ms sql database, and another 20 MB MySql and / or add 500 MB MongoDB to the compote;))

@yarosroman

For this, there is Docker, information on how to pack an application into a container and transfer dofiga and more to a VPS.
