What usb measuring device can you recommend for a simple programming lab?

What usb device can you suggest, what would it be:

1. Cheap enough that it would not be a pity if a student plays it.
   
2. It supported a minimal command system, for example, it was possible to send a command to measure or set the voltage level, and read the value in response.

If some ready-made measuring device has, among other things, a connection to a computer, then this is hardly a cheap device.
Assemble something yourself on arduino. It will be possible to write as many as two programs - for the microcontroller and for the computer!
