What to set up for a deeper understanding of networks?
Tell me what you can configure, for example, on freebsd 9 - 11, for a better understanding of how the network works, routing, how two end PCs communicate, DNS, DHCP, TCP / IP, in short, everything connected with the network. I read the axis model, looked at the diagrams, but there is not enough practice for a complete understanding.

Routing for two end PCs is practically not configurable.
Raise 2-3 virtual machines in different subnets, raise vpn between subnets, configure end-to-end dhcp from one subnet to another.
But in general, just set up a home router to begin with, so that it normally distributes everything via wifi and wire, close everything superfluous, forward some kind of web server thread to the outside.
I will support Wexter and recommend buying two cheap Mikrotik routers
Tasks for at least 4 virtual machines on FreeBSD (rhombus - 2 gateways, 2 intermediate routers) + 2 terminal "workstations" in opposite "corners" of the network:
Then add a second gateway to one workstation and play around with CARP/VRRP.
For deeper understanding? Mpls vpn, te set up. Lots to learn along the way.
