What to do with an old wifi router?
Recently upgraded wifi network at home. It seemed to get better. Now I have an unnecessary wifi router Dlink DI-524. It heats up, hangs and sometimes stops distributing wifi. It's a pity to throw it away, how to use it is not clear. Are there options?

On the 524th Dilinka, the firmware is Linux, so you can play a lot. For example, turn the router into a mini-computer. Busybox is almost uncircumcised there, and I once found firmware with full-fledged Linux on the network.
I myself had this router, I tried a bunch of firmware, everyone had their jambs, then wi-fi fell off after a while, in the other with Wi-Fi everything is in order, but there were problems with the network through Lan.
Then I did not find one German firmware , in which everything was fine.
I had two points, one to catch near the house, the other at home.
In general, if the Internet is obtained via vpn, you can outweigh the load on the old router, and just distribute wi fi from the new one.
As an option (if funds allow) - turn on the distribution of a free Internet, after shaping it so that the channel is not scored.
