What to do if the Windows 7 key is blocked?

The laptop has Win 7 64x, it was activated with a key obtained through the MSDN program (while studying at the computer academy). Suddenly (a few years after installation) Windows began to require activation, when checking through the site or trying to reactivate, a message is displayed about the blocking of the Microsoft key (a message that the multiple activation key is blocked). The key was used for activation only 1 time (without reinstallation), it was not transferred to anyone.
What could be the reason for the blocking, are there any chances to recover the key and where should I go for this?

Most likely, the number of activations for the key has ended. Since the key was obtained through the MSDN program, it is most likely not unique - the same activation key is most likely with your colleagues in the program. When the number of activations for a key ends, it is blocked and a Microsoft technical support employee can unlock it - just call and talk about this topic. Although in your case it most likely will not help, since the conditions for granting a license in your case are no longer met =)

MS can block the key and issue a new one to the institution, there is an activation limit on new devices, so everything is logical
