What specialization to choose right now?

Faced with a situation where you need to turn your hobby into a job.
I love programming, I love writing games and visual programs, my main dream is to go into game development.
But, as far as I can tell, it will take a very long time to get there, so I chose the frontend. I have been studying html, css and JS for about three weeks. When I started learning JS, I started to constantly get distracted by writing and visualizing different algorithms, etc., but I remember layout with pain.
So, the question is, is it worth continuing to make up, knowing that later I will try to move into game development, or go there right away, but with less chance of finding an initial job?
UPD Thank you, nevertheless I decided and I will try myself in what I like. If anything, you can always change everything

The author, game dev is a big area, there are many specializations, and not just a "programmer". It's also a community. Here you, for example, will work in a large game project, but will be responsible only for a separate module - will that suit you? Or do you want to solo release a decent game without anyone's help (and this is far from just programming)?
So start with a deeper study of the area that you like - and then decide, maybe you will stop liking it. And if it doesn’t stop, then I don’t see any problems in order to continue moving in the same direction. Be more specific about what exactly you want - do you like the programming process itself or do you need fame (when you are considered a cool programmer) or something else.
PS If life goes well, then in December I will assemble a team. I don't know for sure yet. And register on Habré, otherwise how can I write to you?

Try drawing "live" infographics on d3.js or three.js , these skills can also come into game development.
You are unlikely to find such a full-time job, but there seem to be orders for freelancing.
Or animation for banners.

Read less useless articles in RuNet about how difficult it is and do more. It is unlikely to get into a company that makes AAA class projects with a lack of knowledge, but it’s quite simple to get into something simpler. The articles, of course, drive the horror that you need to be a nuclear physicist to work in game dev. Everything is much easier. Not everyone is sitting there writing abstruse physics simulations, complex engines and making games with billions of dollars in budgets. Many people already use something ready-made. Many do not use anything at all except basic knowledge of vectors, a couple of simple collision algorithms and the ability to move a brush in Photoshop to create splat maps, height maps and other things, in order to then write a couple of shaders in 10 lines to generate a game landscape from these maps. Many people work with 2D and make all sorts of farms. Many do not know anything at all and poke the mouse into some kind of unity.
There are a lot of people in Runet who have the type of "heard something", who like to inflate a gigantic problem out of any nonsense. If you listen to such people, you won’t even be able to screw a light bulb into a chandelier.

I wanted to become a hockey player, but it turned out that it was not easy and I became a watchman. I'm thinking about trying to play hockey, maybe it will help me become a hockey player? What do you think? Or continue to watch and it will all work itself out?
You should participate in the "talk show". They love pseudo-problems there.

Schoolboy detected.
The connection between game and software development is about the same as the connection between a beach holiday and a beach cleanup worker. In one case, this is relaxation and pleasure, in the other, it is a routine and work up to the ears in the din.

You can look in the direction of iOS development - write a simple application and put it on the appstore for 1 USD - monetization will begin immediately

You (in Russia and Ukraine) have at least some kind of game dev, unlike us (Kazakhstan)...
