What to do for a beginner coder

Get to the office as soon as possible, for this, learn at least JS\PHP. Otherwise, you will simply stagnate and waste your precious time.
simple orders for little money?

Then what is its benefit? If you make it perfect, then he can still win - but then "little money" disappears. If you, as a beginner, typeset at random, then he will simply redo it for you.

how to find a mentor or programmer

- Ask yourself, does he need it? A mentor (mentor) is a paid and expensive business. He does not provide orders.
You have two options: go to the office or promote your freelancing profile.
Here it was discussed where to start I want to do web development, where to start?

The Internet has gone crazy on "Basics", "Basic Knowledge", "Visual Web Design Academy" and so on... Without real tasks, nobody needs you. No one will teach you for free without a visible result and an initial level, at least to assess the prospects. Despite the overstocking, there are no people on the market to whom the task can be completely transferred - such people are constantly busy in their niche and earn good money.
The easiest way to learn is to go to the office as a slave, for free, until you reach lower-pre-intermediate. In a year, you can learn to make up well and start thinking beyond a static picture, begin to understand the interaction of elements, etc. If you study, of course. Well, you will be given real business tasks for which money is paid, and not spherical "Building simple web app using XYZ.js Part 1 of 24"
Or another way is to learn one topic, for example, well xs, 2 * 2 calculators in javascript for tilde / screwing galleries / sliders / etc and vacuum all freelance orders for respect. But you need to learn it in such a way that it works the first time, without rework, understand, etc.
The list of basic skills is primitive to disgrace:

  • The general concept of the document structure, which tags are used for what. HTML and basic css rules by heart to know which first letter to type for Emett
  • Photoshop layout (now figma, avocado and other vegetables). Be able to cut and compress images, not fall into a trance when you need to copy block styles from the editor to CSS
  • I would definitely add bootstrap now and learn the documentation in general as our father. Differences BS 3/4, be able to add a couple of your blocks on top of any ready-made theme
  • Understanding the basic principles of adaptability using the example of the same BS
  • Primitive PHP at the level of string functions, strftime and other husks
  • English with a dictionary (I am a programmer or I google well on the stack)
  • Basic jquery from discharge screw slider, unscrew isotope
