What laptop should a freshman buy?

I have been thinking for a long time what laptop to buy for the university. You will need to do programming, a little design, surf the browser, coursework and all. I will also make websites on it. Budget up to $1100. I thought about the MacBook, but for such a price you can’t buy a new one with a more or less configuration (or still buy a used one? In perfect condition). Now in thought, and the deadlines are running out.
