What knowledge is needed to become a MASTER in the field of PC and laptop repair?
To everyone who reads this, and especially to those who read this to the end, THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I will try not to waste a lot of words and time, I will describe everything briefly.
I am almost 18 years old, I entered the university on 03/09/02
And the question arose in front of me, what should I do?
The first thing that came to my mind, since I have been fond of computer technology for a long time
(as well as playing games, disassembling, assembling, helping my neighbor to install Windows, etc.)
is to try and develop this direction
. I already have experience in this ( though small), my father brought half-dead laptops from work, each with its own problems, I revived them to an ideal state and sold them, which is partly why I decided to choose the path of repair.
BUT I will say right away that my work with these laptops consisted in a simple diagnosis of an error and if it is difficult or impossible to eliminate it, then just replace the spare part, basically it was a job consisting of:
1) assembly, disassembly
2) replacement of modules (RAM, memory, system cooling, touchpad, keyboard)
3) cleaning from dust, replacing thermal paste
4) reinstalling the system, installing basic programs before selling
While I'm not 18, no one wants to hire me and that's why I want to spend this time pumping myself and skills, please advise what I need to know, learn, etc. to start your journey in this area.
in the answers to this question (maybe it will sound impudent, but) I want to see really practical advice, and not a chatter from a series of go do something useful, etc.
1) what literature or video on the same YouTube is worth studying?
2) what do I need to know in detail about the hardware of the computer and laptop?
3) what diagnostic methods and options should I study?
4) are there any open access courses on this topic that are 100% worth studying?
And in the end, please do not write about the fact that this work sometimes makes you cheat for the sake of a penny, that this work is not always, but only for a while, in the form of a side job, etc.
Of course, this worries me, but not so much, I’ll probably figure it out with time myself.
In the meantime, I want to try myself in what I'm really interested in, because I don't see myself in other areas yet.

There are no courses as such, but basically the classical concepts of electrical engineering, electronics are needed. there, of course, they teach ancient junk, God forbid that it’s not tube technology, but at least you will memorize the rules of Kirchhoff, 03/09/02 will most likely be useless. Look there according to the situation, it may be possible to transfer in the process if there are more sensible specialties.
The community of repairers is quite closed, in many forums with useful information there is generally a paid membership. For a more or less serious repair, you need access to documentation, electronic circuits (of course, you need to understand them, understand what a mosfet driver is, where is the duty room, etc.).
Plus, specialization is quite strongly developed, for example, far from everyone repairs stubs. Because there, again, documentation + specific experience is needed, plus access to spare parts.
Honest work as a computer repairman is doomed to poverty.
This is so unprofitable that if you only repair computers alone, you most likely will not have enough money even to rent an office in a decent place. Therefore, in addition to repairs, you will also have to deal with everything else related to electricity + trade + some other services.
Only a few who were able to promote themselves through communities or a YouTube channel can somehow more or less clearly exist alone.
To begin with, study circuitry (at least that’s what I called it at the university)
The best thing you can do is go to an apprentice office that repairs computer equipment (after high school, if even for free), there you will be given basic knowledge, well, then youtube channels and google.
I have a friend who learned circuitry well. was a radio amateur. Now he is engaged in diagnostics and interrogation of the board computer. auto. Day 2-3 Scarves are your 200 green presidents. But you have to grow up to that. Good luck
Try, for example, to look at the course from PC-Expert, on laptop repair, he explains quite competently. In general, experience decides more than theory, although, of course, you also need to know the theory. Watch videos on the channels, take laptops for restoration and repair with Avito (they can be resold if successful), and practice, you need a lot, a lot of practice.
Start from school. To study physics, a little less, but it is necessary - mathematics.
Further - specialized education, which should include: electrical engineering (TOE), electronics, automatic control systems, mathematical foundations of systems theory, etc. In general, the first two (plus physics in terms of electricity is tight, and a little more mathematics than at school) is enough.
In addition, subjects on the design of a computer (in our institute, it seemed to be called a computer) - they studied the device, starting with the small (logic, adders, registers, memory, ...), then ALU, well, processors according to the classics - x86 . Accordingly, everything related to input-output, storage and movement of information. Next, you will immediately need a subject like "data transmission in control systems", where interfaces, methods of information transmission, coding, transmission protocols, etc. are studied.
...
In parallel with this, you need to work closely on "amateur radio", well, that is, you can just take a book like "electronics for beginners" and directly on it try to assemble and solder your first devices - a radio, a generator, all sorts of bells, radio-controlled cars and some kind of automation. Appetite comes with eating - then you will understand for yourself what is interesting, what is not very. This stage is important for understanding at the level of intuition and automatism, how the laws of physics are applied and work (Ohm's law, Kirchhoff, etc.), how transistors work, what is a large voltage, or a small one, you can directly in your own skin (in direct sense!) to test. Well, it’s elementary, to learn how to hold a soldering iron, to master the chemistry of different processes - what is soldered with what, what is washed, and what to put where .
...
Again, in parallel, we study, at least to a minimum, the software structure of modern processors and computers - boot order, bios, uefi, boot sources, try to write programs in different languages, incl. on ASM (it’s convenient on old computers, with an LPT port to indulge, you can immediately clearly see what is controlled, and how to manage some hardware with a program).
...
FORUMS!
No need to go to YouTube and watch videos - leave it to the children.
We go to rom.by, study the materials, read and use the search for incomprehensible questions. We go to laptop1, again we study the materials and experience of others (as such, there are no articles here, but a large amount of useful fixed topics).
Well, take and do!
We take a computer and fix it. What is not clear - we are looking for, reading, studying. Even if this is an unknown connector on the motherboard, we are looking for what it is and why and how it works. When there is no unknown - in fact, you don’t even have to fix it :-) or you can quite find a direction yourself where to dig. No - we google by the name of the board / device / post-code / error or even the name of the microcircuit, etc., we study. No - we create a topic on the forum, indicating as fully as possible everything that is known, and everything that has been done (no need to shoot and upload videos!). We are waiting for advice, we continue. At first it's hard, you can fix one board for weeks, then it will be easier and easier, and after 5 years you will already forget how to create a topic on the forum.
Good luck!
And the question arose in front of me, what should I do?
because in other areas I don’t see myself yet
ask Howdy Ho to make a video, he will show you everything in 15 minutes from beginner to pro
Didn't find what you were looking for?
