Is it practical to leave the computers in an organization powered by their UPS so that they can be turned on remotely using Wake-on-Lan?
I asked myself a question, rather, convenient for me personally as a system administrator of the organization. There are about a hundred computers that you want to be able to turn on and off when necessary, remotely. The fact is that computers work through the UPS, and earlier I convinced everyone (and I myself think so) that it is not necessary to leave the UPS turned on. Type. finished work, turned off the computer, turn off the UPS. The question is rather even technical - is it still normal to leave the UPS in "idle" mode? Is there a difference in the durability of the UPS when it is running around the clock, or when it is only when there is a load? Still, of course, I will be forced to order to leave the UPS turned on, because I personally need it, I just ask a question to understand what I risk or what can come of it?

The UPS must be operated in continuous mode and shutting down at night reduces battery life ..
Longevity (here you mean battery life) directly depends on the frequency and duration of power outages - and night shutdown: a special case of such a shutdown, only without active load
