1) Photograph a sample of known length so that it occupies the entire length of the frame
2) Measure the distance to the sample
3) In EXIF look at FocalLength
4) Calculate the sensor width: FocalLength * Sample Size / Distance
Example: I photographed my monitor with a length of 0.536 m from a distance of 0.48 m iPhone, the monitor took up the entire frame. iPhone camera focal length - 3.85 mm = 0.00385 m
Sensor width approximately - 0.00385 * 0.536 / 0.48 = 0.0042 m = 4 mm
