Collage and photobashing are almost synonymous. Collage can be part of photobashing, and photobashing can be used in the collage process.
But there are nuances (depending on the context of use):
Most often, collage ( photocollage ) is such an illustration technique when you create an illustration using a set of photographs, combining them in any way. For example (gif animation):
And photobashing ( photobash ) is often used as a term when you want to texture some object(s) using photos. At the same time, photobashing, in a professional environment, usually serves to create quick sketches, without detailed study of the details of the object.
Here's an example: here I made an illustration with a coastline (a collage, by the way), and then I needed to make a quick sketch of the fortress. I made a 3D model and rendered it without textures:
Then I found a photo with plus or minus a suitable texture and put it on top of my 3D model.

I did it very quickly and rudely, without any perspective corrections, cuts and other things - just like that, I stuck it on top of my fortress. But of course with mixing layers and color correction.
I just paid a little more attention to the detached building on the right, because it stands out a lot.
Here's what happened:
As a result, if you look closely at the large format illustration, you can see that all the textures are just out of place. But with a quick view, the general idea and atmosphere is captured. This is the photobash.
In practice, photobashing can be part of a collage, and vice versa - a collage can be used in the photobashing process. Also, in practice, photobashing is often used as an illustration technique (instead of collage) for sketching or speedpainting.
Below is another example of collage (1) and photobashing (2):

2. And here is an example of a better photobash. At first glance, everything is cool. But if you look closely, then the details do not “cling” to each other - it is not clear from where this or that detail “legs grow”.
