What is the difference between network printing via RAW and LPR?

In short, it makes sense to install LPR on heavily loaded UNIX print servers in order to take advantage of print queues. RAW is more profitable to use with a small print load and the presence of spaced printers (i.e. on a print server). Of course, you can set the protocol that you like more and not delve into the intricacies of the process
