What format should I format a new external drive in macos?
Hello.
Yesterday I ran into a huge problem with APFS partitions on an external hard drive - a table flew off, because of this the data became inaccessible.
It was decided to buy a new disk and restore data to it.
Today they brought it, now the question arose: in what format should it be formatted, which is better and why.
What partition table to use and for what?
Thing is, I'm not particularly strong on such matters, so this answer is very important.
It is worth noting that the disks are still needed for use on the ubuntu server. not so much for writing, but for reading (transferring massive files to archive disks to delete subsequent ones on the external, main one).
So again:
ExFAT, macOS extended (journal) or apfs (which I don't want to use anymore). and if you chose one of the options, why?
thanks in advance for your replies

the most normal format for makosi now is hfs (apfs has a reserve for the future, but is still damp).
if on ubuntu you only need to read, then I would format it into a journal hfs, ubunta can read it out of the box.
if you need to write from ubunta, then I would make a separate exfat section for this. it is also possible and so , but the option with a separate section is preferable.
