What does the keep alive timeout parameter mean on a pppoe client?
All the best. Do not scold strictly, because I read it, but I didn’t understand :(
In the pppoe settings of the router client (mikrotik) there is a keep alive timeout field on the wiki it says that this is a time limit for active connections and the default is 60 seconds.
Or you can give some more details :)
P. WITH. The fact is that from time to time this pppoe seems to “stick” on my microtic, after reconnecting it works again, the provider says that everything is ok, that it’s something with my hardware, so now I’m studying all the pppoe settings client.
Thanks in advance for your help

Well, the PPoE tunnel over the Internet is working, and suddenly, once the connection was interrupted.
The question arises - to immediately break the tunnel, or hold it for a while, in the hope that the connection will improve.
This parameter just determines how long the tunnel will be kept active in the event of a connection drop.
If you have it for 60 seconds, then if the connection drops for 30 seconds, PPoE will not end.
after the packets stop walking through the tunnel, MikroTik will send keepalive packets to the tunnel and if there is no confirmation within the specified seconds, the tunnel will be considered dead.
