A lawyer in IT first of all needs to learn how to search for information on his own.

First of all, it depends on the specifics of the business accompanied by it.
It's just that copyright is too vague.
Specifically, as a general lawyer under the support of legal issues of the IT department:
1) Computer programs, databases and topologies of integrated circuits as objects of intellectual property
2) Civil law contract in the field of circulation of computer programs and databases.
3) Features of the jurisdiction of the Russian Federation in the regulation of legal relations with foreigners and foreign organizations related to intellectual property.
4) Free software in the context of the legislation of the Russian Federation (Actually, we don’t have free software, well, it’s not provided, the only way is to transfer it to the public domain, but you can somehow get out of it)
5) Royalties and lump-sum payments.
6) License agreement, authentic translation, ratification.
7) Knowledge of court practice in this matter, preferably regional (usually far from federal), knowledge of dispositions in such cases.
And also:
1) Protection of personal data during their processing in information systems.
2) Legislation in the field of data encryption (it's good to know the relevant GOSTs)
And the same bunch of laws regarding specific specifics, be it trade, services, energy, etc.
everywhere there are from heels, a dozen Federal Laws. and several rulings

To begin with, what an ordinary lawyer needs to know (starting with the constitution;))
But everything else ... it depends on the specific employer or field of application. IT is quite broad. For example, I (as a customer) mainly faced problems in international law, labor law, and intellect. own and related rights.
All the same, it would be easier if the position and type of client companies were indicated.

What does eat mean? In the sense that we own up to judicial practice, or we have learned the main by-laws ...

I'm sorry, but that's almost like what a doctor in the operating room needs to know.
Without specification, the question looks absurd.

Taking into account the clarification of the author of the question (if I misunderstood, I apologize in advance):
If you / they are start-up entrepreneurs, then, from personal experience, I do not advise you to bother much with the legal side of the issue - follow the formal requirements for opening an online store (registration, tax, various inspections). Then, if the budget / turnover allows, hire a good accountant - at first he will be much more useful than a lawyer. If you do your own bookkeeping, study the issues of taxation and reporting.

Personally, I think that an IT lawyer should have both legal skills and perfect English as well as technical expertise.
After a year of searching, I found the perfect company for myself. The leader speaks the same language with me, very easily and in an easy way.
The company has so many clients that even my relatively unique project was not new to them.
As an IT lawyer, I recommend LAWBOOT as an IT lawyer. Contacts of their manager: [email protected]
And I advise lawyers to look for work there too! I think this is the perfect place to learn and grow!
