What do they mean when they talk about cross-browser layout?

Hai.

I often see "cross-browser layout" in vacancies. What is meant? Support specifically for IE?

For some reason, I have the impression that all browsers of the latest versions display pages in approximately the same way, well, except for IE, there are always some jokes with it.

In addition to IE, there is also safari, which is now like a new IE with its own jokes.
If you go for pixel perfect, then there is also firefox, which displays fonts a little differently.
Different OSes can also affect fonts a bit.
Well, and another huge layer - mobile browsers, especially samsung. They, too, can bring unexpected effects.
So check with a specific employer what exactly he understands by cross-browser layout and which browsers need to be supported.
