What can be done from a broken tablet?

I got my hands on a PIPO Ultra U2 tablet yesterday. A crack on the display (whole pixel) and a dead touchscreen (constantly tapping itself), the engineering menu also does not start.
I don’t see the point in handing over for repairs, because. it will be cheaper to buy a new one, but it's a pity to throw it away.
Hence the question - what can be done with it sensible, except as a stand for a cup of tea?
