Replacing the processor with a more powerful one. What problems can there be?
Hello!
I have already seen a similar post on this topic, but they never came to a full-fledged solution, so I would like to form a correct and complete answer during the discussions.
So what we have:
Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 14 laptop
I understand that the motherboard only supports G1, from which the list of replacements follows:
www.cpu-world.com/Sockets/Socket%20G1%20(rPGA988A).html
Questions for processor choices are as follows:
1. What temperature will my laptop take?
2. What is the maximum power consumption that can be selected?
3. How to make sure you can use TurboBoost?
4. Well, the main question: will there be a significant increase in performance when replacing the processor inside the M-series?
PS SSD and add. the bar of RAM is already there, the only thing left is the processor.

It makes sense to upgrade:
In your case, you can put i5, but you won't be able to achieve a significant performance increase - such differences are noticeable only in tests...
You can install at least Core i7-840QM if you need cooling. In normal use, it will not require good cooling, and while playing games, you can put it on a cooling pad. For complete maniacs, on laptop days right under the fan, you can drill holes (this is if there are none, and the fan takes air from under the keyboard like Toshiba Satellite laptops). You can also break off the plastic sticks of the laptop case protecting the radiator, + 1% to cooling =) Also use good thermal paste, if the radiator core is copper, then you can use liquid metal. You can also increase the voltage of the fan (there are a lot of ways, starting from an external power supply with a switch to an internal one, ending with a DC-DC boost converter). It all sounds crazy, but it works.
Is it possible to put a processor with a different architecture with the same socket and so on?
