What are the benefits of connecting switches over fiber optics?
I just had a question and everything, what are the benefits. The network often offers to connect equipment via optical fiber.
The first plus that I found was only that you can stretch the cable for a longer distance without repeaters.
In conditions where there are less than 10-20 meters between the switches and the router, what are the advantages of connecting via sfp (as I understand it, optical fiber).
For me, this is a mystery, because you need to buy additional modules and it costs money. Why do people advise building a network on fiber?

Because a network on copper twinax cables of 10 gigabits is more difficult to cost - SFP + ports are vendor-locked all around, and if, say, you have CISCO on the one hand and HP Pro Curve on the other hand, they will not be able to work together with one Mellanox cable - Cisco will eat it , and HP will send you to buy a cable strictly according to the list.
