What are stand-alone embedded calculators?

I am reading a book by Starkov V.V. "Architecture of a personal computer: organization, device, operation"
Got into the book at this point:

Controllers in common parlance.

This is a device class.
Autonomous means independent, acting independently of anything.
Embedded - means built into the device, is part of it.
Calculator - means engaged in calculations, close in meaning to a computer.

In this case, the "calculator" is set to cover a larger range of devices, for example, it does not have to be a microprocessor, it can be a completely analog circuit on relays and transistors, but which actually "calculates" some value, for example, such a "calculator" can be found in devices for "levitation" of magnets, in fact, the analog circuit continuously "calculates" what force must be directed to the electromagnet at one time or another.
