Vmware, error opening .vmdk file?

When booting a virtual machine from ubuntu (desktop) an error occurs. The error appears at the stage of loading the OS, on a purple window with the inscription Ubuntu 10.10 and four dots on the progress bar.

'msg.vmxaiomgr.retrycontabort.rudeunplug:Operation on file "E:\Virtual Machines\ubuntu\ubuntu.vmdk" failed.
If the file resides on a remote file system, please make sure your network connection and the server where this disk resides are functioning properly. If the file resides on removable media, reattach the media.
Choose Retry to attempt the operation again.
Choose Abort to terminate this session.
Choose Continue to forward the error to the guest operating system.', попробуйте 'help'.

All 3 buttons lead to nothing positive.
Is there any way to extract information from this image?
PS naturally the specified file E:\Virtual Machines\ubuntu\ubuntu.vmdk exists.
I was even able to successfully convert it to the .vhd format using the Vmdk2Vhd.exe utility.
But even MicrosoftVirtualPC cannot start this OS.

@SCINER

Try to boot from some LiveCD and try to mount the partitions, because Ubuntu 10.10 is already some data that is available.

And where was this image previously connected? Is it possible to edit a virtual machine?

This situation arose after cutting down the light in the apartment. I did not make any changes to the controller or to the size of the disk.
