Video machine, xenon e5450?
I want to build a computer to work with video and not only. Video no more than 30 minutes + after effect.
There is no budget, there is a trifle by today's standards.
I am assembling a car to study editing and effects in it.
I want to assemble the following:
intel xenon e5450 processor
mat. asus p5kc 775s or gigabyte ga-965-ds4
8gb DDR2 RAM
Video cards (haven't decided which yet, but most likely it will be radeon crossfire)
SSD 128 + 2TB
power supply 500
Question: Is the game worth the candle? And what video card to choose?

Here the processor or RAM is not as important as the video card and file subsystem.
xeon for other purposes. If you already have it, what can you do, but in general, take the e7500. If that can be overclocked to 4GHz without problems. The stone is thick and will burn out more than i7 without overclocking.
My advice. Take an ssd from intel + a better video card. Tell me how much you are willing to give, I will suggest specific models.
But it's up to you to decide what is better for amd or nvidia, I'm for nvidia (eats less, playful)
About whether it's worth taking 2 medium cards or 1 good one. To put it bluntly, take the top one.
I tested, crossfire rarely wins, and only at the expense of memory. In terms of performance, one top one breaks 2 medium ones, even if there is at least 12GB of RAM ... + energy costs + power supply + mother.
The processor and RAM are very important, as are the disk subsystem and the video card.
Regarding the processor, the c2d E7500 is several times weaker than the E5450 xeon.
Video editing is not transcoding or rendering video, it is much more. After Effects is more of a compositing than a pure video editing, it requires a lot of memory and even if you have the best graphics card in the world, you won't get to render if you have 2 GB of RAM.
There are also problems with using crossfire, not all video editing programs support it. Regarding the video card. What do you want to accelerate with the video card, render or timeline? Or both. What plugins are you planning to use? What programs. For example, Sony Vegas Pro "loves" Open CL, while Primier Pro loves CUDA.
It also plays a role with which codec to render. Considering the weak power supply, you can try to find hd 6850/6870 for MainConcept from Radeons, and gtx550 Ti/560 Ti from Nvidia.
The best option is hd 6970 or gtx 580, but then you need a more powerful power supply.
As for the power supply, 500 W does not mean anything. You need to know how much power the unit produces at +12 V, take away the motherboard, percent, disks and cooling and see what remains on the video card.
Conclusion: On the xeon E5450, even without overclocking, it is quite possible to assemble a machine for a fairly comfortable training in video editing. I have a friend on a slightly weaker typewriter earns by creating videos for YouTube.
