I solved exactly the same problem by installing the appropriate UPD versions on both machines
1. Printer model.
2. What rights does the user have?
3. What is the program?
Did the problem appear immediately or did everything work fine for a while?
Have you unchecked the printer sharing settings regarding support for other OS versions?
But did not try to install normal firewood from the manufacturer's website?
Try turning off the "Bi-directional communication" checkbox in the printer properties. In general, from experience (we have similar printers, HP LJ P1005, a whole pack) - it is extremely difficult to make them work over a network on different operating systems. If two XP are online, everything is ok. All other configs (Vista / 7) - a lot of problems, freezes, and so on. It is quite possible that the most working option would be to purchase a usb print server (if this printer will work through it).
