Upgrade from El Capitan to a newer version?

I have a macbook pro, early 15. It costs El Capitn. Do I need to update, and if so, to which version?

If everything works, you can not update.
I've been driving Mojave on a beech for 14 years, and Catalina on a beech for 18 years.
