Updating the system on a laptop if WSUS is unavailable?

Hello colleagues.
We use wsus to update computers in the domain.
All WS in the office are laptops, and users often take them home and work from home. When they raise VPN, and when they don't.
I would like to make sure that users' laptops are updated at home not through wsus, but from Windows Update from the Internet. Is it possible to check this, can anyone come across.
