Ubuntu and discrete + integrated graphics

There is a laptop - Asus K42JC with integrated graphics in i5 and a discrete card from nVidia.
Interested in how ubunta interacts with two graphic accelerators - chooses one of them, or ...
The essence of the problem is as follows - after installing ubunta 10.10, it starts only until the proprietary drivers are enabled. after that the OS is not loaded. in the BIOS, regarding the graph, there is only 1 item in which 2 values \u200b\u200bof “win vista / 7” and “reserved”, I tried both options - with none of them after turning on proprietary drivers, the system does not boot ... I tried both x86 and x64 versions of ubunta ... maybe someone encountered?

You can turn off the viduhu in the BIOS that is not needed at the moment.

What do you mean by "enable proprietary drivers"? If you register in the config - it's not surprising. Because you have an integrated card enabled by default, which, logically, will not work with Nvidia drivers. It is also worth noting that modern csorg is smart enough to slip the necessary drivers on its own.
Ubuntu, by itself, does not interact with the cards in any way, because it sees only the default Intel (Nvidia is simply disabled).
Now, closer to the point: you need to pick in the direction of vgaswitcheroo, though I don’t know how the situation with Nvidia cards is now.

In failsafe, download and execute in the root console:

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | less
At least you will find in the log where Xs fall.
