To what extent is the field of software development for embedded real-time systems in demand?

Hello! For the third year I have been working at a defense enterprise as a software engineer. I write software for embedded real-time systems. To what extent is this area promising and in demand on the market today in Russia and abroad (not only the defense industry, for example, IOT or Smart Home systems)? Salaries in this area are especially depressing. For example, I work in the position of Midlle-developer (in Russian - software engineer of the 3rd category) and receive a salary of 25,000 rubles. In our office, Junior (software engineer without a category) earns 15,000. This is in a small provincial town in Russia with an average salary in the city of 15,000, but looking at my colleagues from abroad, I just want to cry with envy. I am aiming for another place of work in another city or abroad.

In addition to the defense industry and the space industry, there is a demand in telecom. Also, real-time systems are especially popular with large banks and brokers trading on the stock exchange, both here and abroad. The servers of such systems are located either on the exchange itself or not far from it for less delay in receiving exchange quotes, the so-called. high-frequency (HFT) trading. Specialists of this level earn quite well, but there are risks. If the topic is interesting, read Flash Boys: The High-Frequency Revolution on Wall Street , the book contains real life examples.
For my part, I will say that salary should not be the main criterion when looking for a job. Abroad has its own laws, culture and way of life. You will not be a lonely programmer guy all the time, someday you will start a family, children. Work is part of life, but not life itself.

RTOS is shoved everywhere now - household appliances, network equipment, auto ... industry and the defense industry, you yourself know. So the profession, IMHO, is very much in demand. Another thing is that there are few good specialists (as well as vacancies). Look for jobs from well-known brands - for example, I was interviewed at LG and they really do develop software for TVs. Perhaps there are more vacancies in Europe, but you can also find something in the Russian Federation (in Nizhny Novgorod, for example - many large companies like Intel come there)

The picture is the same as mine 1.5 years ago. In this area, you can earn normally only in a big city (Moscow time, St. Petersburg).
And it’s very easy to judge the demand for hh, in comparison with any stack of web technologies.
