The RAM is not working, what does the board need besides the frequency and the volume of the bar?

Hello.

I have a Z87M-HD3 motherboard and a PC3-12800U-CL11 8GB RAM stick, the computer won't start with this RAM stick.

The frequency is supported by the motherboard, the volume is also supported;
I tried to put the bar in another slot - it does not work;
I tried to run it with another bar (AD3U1600W8G11-S) - it starts;
I tried to run the problem bar on another board - it started.

I think that the problem is not in the RAM bar, since it works on other motherboards, but in the fact that the Z87M-HD3 for some reason does not support this bar, why? - I do not know.

Any ideas ? What does the motherboard require besides the frequency and volume of the strip?

The RAM parameters dofiga and more. The capacity of individual chips on the bar, their bus bit depth, read timings. All this is written in the SPD and is used by the BIOS to initialize the DDR subsystem. There is a chance that updating the BIOS will help you, there is a chance that your mother is much older than the memory bar and even the latest BIOS does not support this hardware configuration. Or maybe even the chipset "doesn't know how" it,
if you really really want to find the reason - read and decipher the SPD of both brackets (which does not work / which works) and compare the details. There are utilities in the public domain, the SPD standard is described. In case of difficulty, write in the comments, we will figure it out

The most important thing is not to stick a low voltage bar into a regular slot, and vice versa. There is another tension.
Even earlier (now I don’t keep track) there was such a topic as dual rank organization of chips on a die and nuances in their application.
To be sure, go to the motherboard manufacturer's website and look for your model in the support list.
(we leave behind the scenes all sorts of stupid options, such as holding hands in a sweater for memory)
And also about voltage - there are special overclocker modules that require an increase in voltage from default for normal operation. And the mother, if not smart enough, must be forced to set the desired voltage before installing such a memory in the presence of old dies.
