Streaming service other than Steam in-home?

So, we all know that there's an awesome thing called Steam in-home, but there's a whole lot of quality to it. It's just terrible, regardless of the Internet, I only had 720p once, and even then, for 5 seconds. The question is: are there services / programs for streaming from a powerful pu to a laptop (in my case, Mac) with a choice of quality ( ideally)
And so that the program is either free, or you buy it once and use it.
