Skype: prevent updates

Please tell me how to prevent Skype from updating from the version that I install myself.
This issue is painful not only for me, judging by some foreign forums.

Well, what if you sniff the address where Skype knocks to check for updates, and then write it in hosts to 127.0.0.1?

Try putting 1 in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Skype\Phone, DisableVersionCheck

All these recommendations have ceased to be valid since the fall of 2014, when MS completely changed the privacy policy and canceled the p2p connection in Skype (this is approximately from version 6.18). Who knows how to cancel auto-updates for the "new" Skype, post it here. Even looking at the "muzzle" of version 7.0 - turns back from the soul, let alone use ...

It's strange because I have Skype 6.0 and the update check seems to be on, but it does not try to upgrade to 6.8, I wonder why? But 6.3 - judging by the settings, the update is disabled but the item in the menu is not available - you can’t turn it on (someone?), but every time you start it it offers to update to 6.8 and this is wildly annoying, because the new Skype on WinXP simply does not work and one imprudent click is enough on the "update" button and you are left with a non-working skype.

1)CTRL+R %APPDATA%\Skype
2)Go to your user folder
3)Edit the config.xml file in notepad
4)CTRL+F look for the tag <general>and paste the following tags after it <UpdatesMajor>0</UpdatesMajor>, save the file CTRL+S
5)Restart Skype
! ready
