Simulating 3D to 2D?

How in a 2D game the effect is achieved that the basket (in the picture) is displayed, as it were, in 3D. That is, the drawing of the basket is done according to this principle: first the upper part of the basket is drawn, then the ball is drawn, then the lower part of the basket? does this achieve the effect that the ball, as it were, hits the basket, and does not fly behind it or in front of it?

Objects probably have a z parameter that specifies "depth", i.e. layer number and, accordingly, its drawing order, and the basket consists of two objects.
