Should you leave WordPress development?
Hello! I develop for WordPress: I create themes, I write plugins. But I can't help feeling that the market is overflowing with such developers. On the same Upwork, at one time it was even impossible to register with such skills. In general, I like WordPress myself, I can say I enjoy it. Is it worth leaving in the direction of Laravel or does it have its own difficulties in a career?

If you give up in your favorite area, then why do you think that you will not give up in your unloved one? If you constantly develop in the chosen field, you can always achieve heights.
Go away.
In general, as one stage of development in freelancing (in particular, in WordPress), it is a move away from freelancing as such in the direction of passive income: bloggers, courses, mentoring, premium solutions (going to envato, code-seller in Runet).
Leaving in general from Runet. But do you understand the skills that should be there?
Well, or the development of their site - many authors do not sell their solutions on other sites, but do it through their sites. But here many questions will have to be resolved:
is it an IP or other design. But you have to step out of the shadows.
- accepting payments on your site
- creating your own TP
- store
- resolving the issue of licensing and keys for your premium solutions (you will have to protect them), updating them
- Think over the sales system. Marketing.
I am not interested in freelancing as such, but developing premium solutions is a pleasure. Of course, there is still a lot of work to be done - but I think this is a good direction. Here you are your own client.
Why do they burn out in freelancing? Because you need to look for an order, communicate with customers again (you want to eat - that's why many fight for difficult customers) recognizing the TK. (and sometimes knocking out tz) - it's psychologically difficult. It sometimes takes a long time and only then you start working. It’s good if the project is not standard, but if it’s a typical site / store / elementor (you can’t swear) - this is melancholy. And you understand that you live day after day like in the groundhog day. day. The bottom ... That's it - the motivation is gone, depressive.
Therefore, stop doing nonsense - and if you have skills - look for a unique niche. The market is full of typical performers - prove that you are cooler. And for this, you must stand out and you must have something that distinguishes you favorably from others.
There is no point in leaving for Laravel. I studied it, but I couldn't find a job. Almost no one needs Laravel now. Studied Wordpress and immediately found a job. There are a lot of orders on Wordpress. How many Laravel sites do you know?
maybe I don’t even understand, but high-level developers know several languages, what difficulties can be learned in one more technology within one php
WordPress will live forever! work for pleasure, no cms is easier for the client ....
It is better to have a good expertise in one thing, rather than a little understanding of each new system. Let there be darkness of those who know WP at the initial and intermediate level, they will get different trash and get to work. And among those who know WP deeply, the competition is already small, and there is more demand.
you decide from the beginning
if there is little work, that is, if there is time,
if there is time, you can study something else,
if you have studied something else, offer additional services,
but what is the question?
Do you want to spend your whole life on the freelance exchange? If you consider yourself a good specialist, change your place of work and position. Or develop circulation solutions. It's also a pretty good passive income.
WordPress is a CMS. Laravel is a framework.
These are completely different things. On WP you can only make template sites. Everything can be done in Laravel. Of course, Laravel is better, such a specialist will come in handy in any project. But it's also more difficult.
In general, not freelancing needs to constantly develop, look at what is in demand now, and learn to learn
If you have such a question - you should leave, you burned out. In the communities of joomla, drupal, bitrix - there are not enough people like you!
