Should project managers be able to test websites?
Good time!
Looking through Habr today, I saw a couple of vacancies for project managers in Moscow web studios. I am somewhat far from Internet projects, but nevertheless I was surprised by the following item on the list of duties:
- website testing

Depending on what kind of testing, the manager can sometimes do acceptance testing (compliance of the product with user requirements), can control a team of testers or analysts (performing acceptance testing).
In general, if you come to a project that is not particularly developed in terms of IT and ask - what is the responsibility of the project manager. They will answer you - Everything (of course, in a more detailed form)
The manager must test the product, musthave. Another thing is that testing is a very broad concept, and in each company the degree and scope of testing for a manager is different. For example, I know studios where PMs are all former programmers, and they do, incl. codeReview, in another studio, managers test only the functionality and correctness of the display, in the third they only test for compliance with the requirements, in the fourth, managers do not test anything at all, letting go of everything.
Our process is as follows:
- Developer tests -
Project manager
tests - Another developer (CodeReview) of the same department checks (front-enders test the front, back-enders test).
In my experienceI will say that just the best PMs are obtained from testers and programmers.
