SFTP - Certificate Authorization

I connect from my Debian server to a remote, similar one. I use login and password.
I would like to go through authorization without a pass, which would also be useful in the future for organizing an automated backup to a remote location.
They gave out a private key, how much I googled, I can’t catch up, where to place it and where to register it?
