Sale of plugins. Does it make sense to move away from Envato and move to the Freemium model?

I observe a curious trend - developers are actively switching from Envato to the Freemium model. The bottom line is publishing a free version in the official WP directory and transferring traffic to your site, where pro versions or various add-ons are sold. To what extent is this approach justified? Are there any financial calculations for the expediency of abandoning Envato?

In the ru segment, I don’t think it will shoot much, but in eng, many people work on the Freemium model. Free version of the plugin for WP with reduced functionality as a demo version, but if you want all the goodies of the plugin, buy it.
